Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
